A Smashing Hit
Sorry, Finns. We just broke your World’s Largest Fair Trade Coffee Break record. On World Fair Trade Day, the coffee break in the US had over 64,000 participants, 456 events, and 101 media mentions. This broke the October 2008 record set in Finland with about 52,000 participants.
Those individuals who were tallied for the US World Fair Trade Day Count had to attend an event held between May 1-15. Some highlights were the Fair Trade Coffee Giveaway in Boston, Massachusetts (see previous blog) and the Fair Trade UPS deliveries in Austin, Texas.
World Fair Trade Organization estimates that about 27500 attended 889 events to celebrate the World Fair Trade Day.
Thank you to the hundreds of organizers and thousands of participants who made this event such a success and to our friends at the Fair Trade Resource Network who lead the campaign. Check out event photos and videos at WFTD09.
