Cooperativa de Caficultores de Antioquia commercializes coffee and agricultural inputs for smaller base level organizations throughout the regions of the Antioquia department in Colombia. According to the organization, fifty four of Antioquia’s municipalities contribute to an estimated seven percent of Colombia’s coffee production, with over 18,000 acres planted and 9,800 families involved in the production process. Founded in 2000, the Cooperative de Caficultores de Antioquia also provides training and quality improvement assistance to its members. Although Colombia has many unique coffee growing micro-climates, Antioquia’s is rare in that it combines great soil conditions with ideal elevations and excellent rain to sun ratios and exposure, all to produce some of Colombia’s finest coffees. The organization has also successfully integrated some of the region’s oldest traditions in production with a firm commitment to family values, strong work ethic, and a legacy for coffee production that runs deep, all of which make up the perfect landscape for a uniquely rich specialty coffee.

Some of the things we’ve seen since our Fair Trade certification include an increase in our membership, access to environmental workshops, and the distribution of school supplies for our members’ children. Regular technical workshops allow members to gain the knowledge and skills they need to improve production and quality. This motivates us to keep moving forward and to maintain our certification.
