Cooperativa Agrícola Cafetalera Triniteca Ltda. (CACTRIL) was founded in 1968 by 39 small coffee producers in Honduras uniting to overcome challenges in the coffee market and alleviate the poverty producers and the community faced. In its initial years, their coffee was sold only locally, but in 1987, the cooperative expanded and began to generate and sell brands for international commerce. In 1999, the cooperative made another leap and became Fair Trade Certified ™ In recent years, CACTRIL has had at least 50 producers transition into organic cultivation and sales have opened to markets in the U.S., Europe and Japan. CACTRIl also took the initiative to build the very first infrastructure in the region to allow producers to dry, prepare, and export their products.
