Description:
Unión de Cooperativas Agropecuarias de San Juan del Río Coco is an organization of organic producers formed in its majority by small producers that was created from the initiative of a group of leaders of cooperatives located in five communities of the municipalities of San Juan de Rio Coco and Telpaneca (Santo Domingo, Quibuto, El Naranjo, El Balsamo and Guanacastillo). It was legally incorporated in September, 1992. In 2005, the coopertative went through a filtering process that lead to the exit of about 30% of its members and the registration of 53 new members. This process meant a strengthening to the organization, which today has 8 affiliated base cooperatives with 420 members, 80 of them women.
