Quarterly packages of ethical food products from around the world delivered to your doorstep
The Justice Conference, Philadelphia, PA, Feb 22, 2013 - Trade as One (http://tradeasone.com), a company that makes it easy for consumers to build ethical products into their lifestyles, is launching its one-of-a-kind fair trade food subscription service today. Designed to make it convenient for today’s busy consumers to buy ethically, Trade as One’s service delivers a box of healthy, natural, fairly traded products to peoples’ door. This is a simple way to transform the lives of the poor as every item in the curated selection is produced by people in marginalized situations, both domestically and abroad.
“We want to make it simple for people to eat healthy food that does good,” said Nathan George, CEO, Trade as One. “Organic products are a great step towards ethical consumption because they treat our planet with respect, but Fair Trade extends that principle one step further, ensuring that the people who made the products are also treated with respect. The subscription box gives busy people an easy way to live more simply and consume ethically by getting these products delivered to their doorstep on a regular basis. We do the hard work of sifting through the thousands of confusing claims made by producers, and finding the ones that do the most good.”
Delivered every three months, the box contains twelve to fifteen fairly traded consumables – all full size. Each season’s curated box is unique and will typically include staples such as rice and quinoa, kitchen essentials such as olive oil and spices, as well as unique baking mixes and luxuries such as chocolate. A body care item is often included as well, such as shea butter soap, or coconut oil lotion.
“We are aiming to help people consume healthier, higher quality food while standing in solidarity with the global poor,” said Mr. George. “The poor want jobs not handouts. The small scale farmers we work with are hardworking and dignified and want the chance to compete against big business which has excluded them from global trade. We give our customers the power to change that.”
Paul Rice, President and CEO, Fair Trade USA, commented, “American consumers have so much power, and they want to use that power for good. Trade as One’s new Fair Trade subscription program makes it easy for shoppers to make a difference with their dollar. It also makes Fair Trade accessible to all—beyond what local stores may offer. I see tremendous opportunity for this initiative to increase the availability of Fair Trade in the marketplace. Increased availability for consumers means deeper impact for farmers and workers across the globe.”
The box may be specified as gluten-free if preferred. An additional coffee option is also available. Subscriptions are available from Trade as One. By providing in-depth product information in each box, Trade as One connects the consumer even more deeply with the stories of the people and the land from which the products come.
Nathan George is presenting a workshop about living simply and buying ethically at The Justice Conference in Philadelphia, February 22 and 23.
