What is Empowerment? Our Principal’s Visit to Fair Trade USA in Colombia by Ana Zacapa We often hear the term empowerment, but wonder what it really actually means. When I recently visited Skoll Awardee Fair Trade USA in northern Colombia, I saw it firsthand.
We’re celebrating another Whole Trade Haitian mango season here at Whole Foods Market.  These juicy tropical treats will be in most of our stores for a few more weeks, so there’s still time to grab some if you’ve missed them so far.  A small group of us returned to Haiti this April to visit with our partners on the ground and to plan the coming season.  We were amazed at the progress that has been made in the past year and wanted to share the news with you.
When Paul Rice launched Fair Trade USA 14 years ago, it wasn’t easy. He didn't draw a paycheck for six months. The second year, he went without for another six months. But the early struggles, he says, were cake compared with the challenge he faces shifting an already successful business model.
