January 12th, 2010 marks the day that a 7.0 magnitude quake killed or injured thousands of Haitian people and left nearly two million people homeless. It was the day the earth shook, the day that changed everything in the small, colorful Caribbean nation of Haiti.  Amidst chaos and devastation, the people have held strong, and are working to rebuild their lives a little bit each day.

Fair trade isn’t just coffee or handmade gifts anymore. There’s a slew of beauty products to make your inventory unique. Up until the last few years, the term “fair trade” brought to mind men harvesting coffeein sun-drenched plantations or women handbeading jewelry or clothing. But mention fair trade now and you’ll likely be introduced to beauty products that fuel a cause and produce results.

Eating ice-cream is a guilty pleasure, but now you can truly enjoy your favorite flavor and feel good about yourself. Ben & Jerry’s may not be the first name you think of when looking at brands who truly strive to achieve positive change through the way they do business, but making the world a better place is at its very heart. And of course, any brand which successfully mixes business with positive change deserves to be celebrated in this new era of movement marketing.
