Webinar Topic: "How to Make Fair Trade Clothing" featuring Nicole Bassett of prAna
Date: February 9, 2011
Time: 6pm EST/3pm PS
Escaping the confines of traditional “hippie fashion,” Fair Trade is runway ready with great looks like celebrity-designed Fair Trade Certified™ graphic tees by Project Runway’s Korto Momolu, the up-and-coming fashion house Bacca da Silva from Liberty & Justice, boxers and luscious 100% organic women’s undies from newcomer Good & Fair, and tees from sustainability pioneer prAna.
Fair Trade USA, in tandem with several sustainable fashion labels, is working to establish a certification system for the entire process of garment production. This way you can be sure that your fabulous new outfit is Fair Trade from the field, to the factory, to the shelf at your favorite store. As part of this two-year pilot program, our partners seek not only to provide you, the consumer, the option to choose sustainable clothing whenever possible, but also to help you look great doing it.
To help develop consumer awareness about the initiative and encourage fashionistas to choose Fair Trade, prAna is now taking part in an educational webinar series entitled Fashion Ideas. The series was created for fashion businesses, individuals in the industry and sustainability leaders to highlight cutting-edge sustainable practices that will help fashion entrepreneurs flourish. The series is the first of its kind focused on sustainable fashion. Fair Trade USA is proud to partner with the National Association of Sustainable Fashion Designers (SFD) to help make Fair Trade clothing the norm, rather than the exception.
The next session of the webinar, entitled How to Make Fair Trade Clothing, will be presented by Nicole Bassett, prAna’s Sustainability Director. The webinar will be held on February 9, 2011 at 6pm EST/3pm PST. During this session, Bassett will introduce the idea of Fair Trade apparel, while taking the audience on a journey through its development, production and impact.
Interested participants can register for the webinar online at: http://www.fashionideasonfairtrade.eventbrite.com.
“We believe this webinar series is crucial to disseminating knowledge to a broad base of people entrepreneurs and academics alike that are interested in creating more positive social and environmental impact in the fashion industry” says Jamila Payne, Founder of Sustainable Fashion Designers.
As a leader in the sustainable clothing movement, prAna is an active-living brand that offers a harmonious blend of functional design and progressive style. The company began by cutting and sewing clothing in their garage and shipping it to customers in surplus fruit boxes gathered from the local grocery store. Their entrepreneurial and environmental spirit still holds true today by supporting organic cotton, fair trade and wind power initiatives.
We here at Fair Trade USA encourage you to take part in this groundbreaking series. Tune in this Wednesday to learn all about making Fair Trade clothing and how to have a positive impact on the world by dressing yourself head to toe in fabulous, environmentally friendly, socially responsible apparel. Fashion has never been more exciting.
