Sweet Fair Trade Treats at Sam's Club
Sam's Club Bakery Embraces Fair Trade
We often get asked where to buy Fair Trade products. Well, you’ll certainly find the most Fair Trade products while shopping at a natural food store like your local coop or Whole Foods Market. They’ll have literally hundreds of Fair Trade products for you to buy.
But what about a more ‘conventional’ supermarket?
Well it turns out that one of your best bets is Sam’s Club: Their dedicated team of buyers are always on the lookout for new Fair Trade products they can offer Sam’s Club members.
In fact, in the last few months they’ve launched three new Fair Trade products: Daily Chef Dried Montmorency Tart Cherries, Artisan Fresh Banana Nut Bread, and Artisan Fresh Bakery Angel Food Cake all made with Fair Trade Certified sugar benefiting sugar farmers in Belize and Paraguay.
David Walker – a buyer on Sam’s Club’s bakery team – has been leading the charge in bakery: “I feel really fortunate to be in a position in which – with the support of our Members we can make a meaningful difference in the world. It’s a change I believe in.”
Large companies like Sam’s Club have an important role to play in Fair Trade: They make Fair Trade easier to find for more consumers, and they help build entire new supply-chains for developing world farmers’ products meaning that even more companies – whether big or small – can start to offer new Fair Trade products.
So if you’re a Sam’s Club member, keep an eye out for the Fair Trade label – you just might find it’s easier to spot than you think.
