I scream, you scream, we all scream for Fair Trade Certified!
What ice cream flavor best describes YOU?
At four years of age, Rainbow Sherbet defined my playful, color-filled, childish personality. When I was ten years old, Blue Bubble Gum took the lead, as did anything that dyed my tongue semi-permanently blue. Throughout my angst-filled teenage years, I went along with whatever ice cream flavor was most popular. Now, at 21, I stick to Ben and Jerry’s Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz ice cream, not only because it is delicious, but also because it is made with Fair Trade Certified coffee, which fits with my ever-growing social conscience and vested interest in justice.
Four reputable ice cream companies—Ben and Jerry’s, Stonyfield Farms, Temptation Organics, and Blackwell’s Organic—provide various flavors made with fair trade ingredients such as coffee, vanilla, chocolate, green tea, chai, and macadamia nuts. But wait, it gets better: the ice cream from Stonyfield Farms, Temptation Organics, and Blackwell’s Organic is all organic and free of cholesterol, additives, and preservatives (select Ben and Jerry’s flavors are organic, as well.) Moreover, the ice cream at both Temptation Organics and Blackwell’s Organic is vegan and made with soy!
If you like to keep it classic, stick with Fair Trade coffee or chocolate ice cream. However, if you’re ready for a tasty adventure, try Blackwell’s Organic Peanut Butter Chocolate Swirl, Temptation Organics Green Tea, Stonyfield Farms Raspberry White Chocolate Chunk or Vanilla Chai, and Ben and Jerry’s newest fair trade flavor, Chocolate Macadamia Nut, infused with Fair Trade Certified vanilla, Fair Trade Certified chocolate, and Fair Trade Certified macadamia nuts (“a flavor with a mission!”)
