Fair Trade Recipe: Marilu Henner’s Effortless Brownies
Wholesome Sweeteners' Fair Trade Certified Organic Sucanat takes center stage in this quick and easy recipe
Most can agree that brownies are good, but what makes them great? Using high-quality Fair Trade Certified™ ingredients that taste wonderful while working to reduce poverty and protect the planet!
Marilu Henner, internationally acclaimed actress, author of seven healthy lifestyle and cookery books and the founder of Total Health Makeover, uses Wholesome Sweeteners' Fair Trade Certified Organic Sucanat to sweeten this classic recipe.
Sucanat, which stands for Sugar Cane Natural, retains the taste and nutrients of sugar cane and is produced without the use of herbicides, pesticides or chemicals. Sucanat is created when whole cane juice has been rapidly evaporated and hand-paddled to create a dry, porous, free-flowing organic brown sugar. The final product contains 13% molasses and 87% sucrose so it is lower on the glycemic index than regular sugar.
Marilu has been using Sucanat, which she calls a "legal sugar" for 20 years and it is featured in all seven of her recipe books. Marilu's brownie recipe,
from her latest book "Party Hearty: Hot, Sexy, Have-a-Blast Food & Fun All Year Round," is an easy-to-follow recipe that tastes good and is great for sugarcane producers and the planet. The recipe also includes Fair Trade Certified baking chocolate and vanilla.
