A Fair Harvest with Worthwhile Wine

Tom Lynch of Worthwhile Wine spent part of his South African vacation volunteering, living in a mud hut, and working side by side with the people of a remote Zulu village. He was determined to change his life after the experience. Worthwhile Wine Company is the product of Tom’s commitment to people and the environment, and, of course, to great wine. worthwhilevineyard021Worthwhile Wine imports award-winning, organic South African wines that have been produced under socially, environmentally, and economically just conditions. Last March the company joined up with Fair Trade USA to launch its first Fair Trade Certified wine. Their project, Partnership Vineyards, gives ownership of several acres of vineyard to each farmer and cellar worker. Their ultimate goal is to put 80 percent of the shareholding back into the hands of farmers and workers to begin to correct exploitation of years past.

Reflecting on his work, Tom writes, “I love the feeling of working hard for a purpose that is bigger than just profit. I love knowing that, because of the wineries we choose to import, every bottle of wine sold is making someone’s life just a little bit better.”
