Economics v. Ethics

06/02/2009 - 11:03 AM
The basic arithmetic of a current recession + rising gas prices can naturally lead to the conclusion of economic paranoia. It would not be a great surprise to expect that such problems would inspire a heightened level of selfishness within the general public when it comes down to spending money. However, a recent study done by Ethical Corporation Institute has suggested that is not the case. With the new additions of Starbucks and Cadbury to the fair trade movement, retail sales volume of fair trade products have increased EUR 600 million (roughly about US $900 million) within the last year. It seems that ethics will continue to dominate when it comes to making decisions about purchases.
