Heifer International's work to fight seasonal hunger and poverty goes hand-in-hand with Fair Trade
You'll find a lot of content on this blog highlighting the many benefits that Fair Trade brings to farming communities: From improved business relationships and democratic process, to additional income to invest in much-needed development projects. However, Fair Trade is not the only solution to alleviating poverty. Fair Trade often works best when combined with efforts from other organizations with similar missions. And, the democratic structure fostered by Fair Trade standards makes these communities ideal beneficiaries for additional support.

Coffee Imports Up 18%; Cooperatives and Pilot Farms Benefit
Results are in for the first year of Fair Trade USA’s Coffee Innovation Program. We’re pleased to report that imports of Fair Trade Certified coffee increased 18% across the board in 2012, benefiting both new and existing Fair Trade farming communities.
